The Bowen Technique is one of the most straightforward and effective of all hands-on therapies. The therapist makes a series of small precise moves over the muscles and connective tissues using the thumbs and fingers, then leaves the body to deal with them, There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and the treatment is very gentle and relaxing.

It can be performed thought light clothing, it is non-invasive and each session lasts about 45 minutes. In many cases long standing pain can be relieved in 2-3 sessions, although further treatments are required in other situations.

The Bowen Technique is a holistic treatment, which addresses many and varied conditions. It is generally safe and effective for people of all ages. Read the Case Studies to understand better how Bowen Therapy may be able to help you.

A derivative of the treatment is applicable to horses and other animals.

BTTA and BTER

The Bowen Technique was pioneered by Mr Tom Bowen of Victoria, Australia, in the 1950's. Alone, he treated an average of 50 patients a day, most of whom required only one or two treatments to return to complete fitness.

'Ozzie' Rentsh studied under Tom Bowen and was commissioned by him to document his work. He has been responsible for the formation of the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (BTAA) and the Bowen Association in the UK ,and for introducing the technique into many countries world-wide.

During a 66 year life span, Tom Bowen refined his earlier work, and these later developments are now taught by Michael Nixon-Livy under the title of NST (Neurostructural Integration Technique).

The European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS), was formed in England in 1997, and the  Bowen Therapists European Register (BTER), a few years later, in order to further promote the therapy and to represent therapists in the UK.

Tim Willcocks is one of several hundred fully qualified practitioners working in the UK. He is a member of the BTAA and the BTER and is fully insured.
